"Peranakan means born here" The fusion of Chinese and Malay/Indonesian heritage in the Malay peninsula has resulted in a 100-year legacy of the strong identity of 'Peranakan' culture. Peranakan culture represents the Chinese culture of the south through heritage architecture and household decoration, which appeals to everyone who witnesses its beauty. The designer team draws upon the story of Peranakan origin and transforms the legacy into cutting-edge furniture and graphic design, with a strong intention to project the contemporary Peranakan culture. The exhibition includes a furniture set – a couch, dining table, lamp, curtain, and carpet – that was particularly designed to encourage the audience's reinterpretation of the roots of Peranakan culture and what "born here" truly means.
